Wonu Olayinka Evaluation
1. In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms of conventions of real media texts?
In order to successfully create our own music video we spent a long time researching into similar media texts, within the RnB genere, so that we could gain an understanding of the forms and conventions typical of the genre, which would enable us to use, develop, or challenge forms and conventions.
From the beginning to the end of my music video we had to research many different types of media products to ensure our video came out exactly how we wanted it to be.Firstly how we used and developed existing conventions was through my research into our case studies which we done when we had a basic idea of our music video, by looking at other media products we expanded my knowledge of music videos which we wouldn’t have been so confident about before this research. We began researching different types of music videos in our case studies, our first study being on performance, our second being on narrative and our third being on both. From this research we understood that these were both strong elements to a music video and therefore we decided to do our video narrative t, similar to Rihanna's Fool in Love which we researched.
We chose to have a music video which was solely narrative to increase the effect of the message and it’s impact on the viewer, rather than entertain. Although this could mean that our music video is not as enjoyable to watch, it will make up for it by increasing the amount it makes the viewer think about the message being portrayed with our video.
2. How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
The combination of our ancillary texts to our main product, in my opinion is very effective because I feel our album cover fitted in to Rihanna’s style. Rihanna usual goes for weird and unusual things, I felt we fulfilled to that.
We created the website, because in my opinion it would be the most effective way to
advertise the album. Not only for fans that follow the artist, but also for people who
would maybe create a google search on them and find their website. The front page of the website contains photographs of Rihanna and has her tour dates, which in my opinion creates a sense of excitement for the audience. The website is linked to the video in certain ways. For example, the main character in the video is shown on the website which would help the artist become recognised if, after visiting the website, the audience then catch the video on the television, The CD cover, in my opinion is the most important thing to combine with the video and the website. The CD cover was the most important thing to combine with the other products, because if the audience watch the video on television, they need to be able to create a clear link between the video and the CD cover.
Overall, I believe that the combination of our main product and ancillary texts was very successful. We established a clear link between them, so that the products could be easily recognisable to any fan. I also believe that our products look very appealing and professional.
3.What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Before making the music video we created questionnaires to be handed out, to find out what people expected and liked to see in a music video. I found that the questionnaire was quite a good way of researching our audience as the questions were in most cases direct and therefore I could get the answers we wanted. However I found that the questionnaires were not a very reliable source of research because the people who answered the questionnaires could easily lie.
Overall from feedback we have learnt that feedback is perfect and needed to develop our ideas and we have learnt that feedback is a important aspect to any production. Although first hand feedback is great at getting qualative feedback, the uses of the web as a step into successfully exhibiting our work to masses was great at getting a wider set of feedback. We could get feedback from a variety of sources which led to a huge difference between the different stages on each stage of our project. We found the best feedback to be the feedback which was most critical of our work in the long run.
Stepping back from our work and seeing what other people thought of it was perfect at shaping our own view on the work

4. How did your media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
In the research & planning stage we used a few key new media's, the largest being Blogger, We used blogger to document our progress through the project, its is a online portfolio of all our work, from text to pictures to videos and a range of other multimedia. This form of presenting work has been a success because it has enabled me to work from anywhere with a internet connection and not have to worry about carrying all my work with me, its the perfect example of a new media which has enabled ease of use.
The Internet is another huge part of the research and planning stage, we used it extensively to find out information on codes and conventions, on different technologies i was going to use, on locations and on pretty much everything. Using search engines such as Google i could find out anything we wanted
Within the construction of our products we used a few other media technologies. For filming the majority of our music video we used a HD Camera, the quality of these cameras are a hundred times better then the quality of tape cameras,. Both cameras had a variety of manual settings but the HD camera has a few more such as change shutter speed, all of which come in useful when trying to change the outcome of the filming, We experimented a lot before going into post production and we used many of the options to change outcome of the footage.

As well as uses a SD card for saving the videos, which saves a lot of hassle. Now the SD card and a SD card reader go straight into the computer and upload. As well as the hardware we used, there was other software programs we used as well. We used Photoshop to produce our CD cover, we used iweb to make our website. Adobe premier was used to produce the music video, Adobe after effects was used to make our effects such as the green screen. We used survey monkey online to produce the questionnaires. In addition we used Celtix to produce the master catalouge for our planning of the music video. Overall we have used various of media technologies to produce the website, cd CO cover and the music video.
