Soundies were the first music videos that were created in the 1920's and 1930's and they lasted for 3 minutes. These videos often had short dance sequences included in them . They were usually used to entertain people while they were wainting for films to show in th cinema. they were also played on the panoram which were coin operated jukebox that showed in nightclubs, amusement parks etc. The soundies music videos were experimented in silent movies with soundtracks and they were often used in musical or comedy films.
Here is an example of a soundie music video. This video was controversial when it came out because in those days, black cinemas and white cinemas were separate and this video was played in both cinemas which the whites didn't like in those days because it was a black artist singing. it was also controversial because the way that the woman are dressed in the video are shown as sexual so is their dancing.
